TOPS NEWS!

Aussie Ark’s Barrington Tops Wildlife Sanctuary has been thrilled to recently welcome home five Koalas to the Upper Hunter highlands.

Late last year, Aussie Ark worked with a specialist Koala capture and care team from Ecosure and Endeavour Veterinary Ecology to conduct a rigorous health check of its resident Koalas.

The focus of the testing was to determine the presence of the highly infectious disease chlamydia, which if left untreated causes blindness, infertility and even death.

Two females and three males were transferred off site to Koala hospitals but have now

returned to their favourite trees chlamydia and pain free.

The ultimate test of Aussie Ark's success to secure one of the nation's only chlamydia-free Koala populations will be in a couple of months, when it recaptures and retests all Koalas to ensure they're still chlamydia-free and thriving.
