PLANS LODGED FOR UPGRADE AT MUSWELLBROOK SOUTH PUBLIC SCHOOL

Planning for the upgrade at Muswellbrook South Public School has progressed, with the recent lodgement of a Development Application (DA) with Muswellbrook Shire Council to seek development consent for the new teaching spaces.

The upgraded school will provide brand new facilities to meet the growing student and community needs in the Muswellbrook community.

The project will deliver 13 new permanent learning spaces within a new split-level building which will also accommodate the relocated covered outdoor learning area (COLA) and sports court.

The upgrade will also include the refurbishment of 12 permanent learning spaces, upgrades to the administrative building, a new basketball, half court and two handball courts as well as landscaping and seating areas.

The concept and schematic designs have now been completed and Stage 1 works are set to begin before the end of 2021 under exempt development.

Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said the upgraded school is part of the NSW Government’s commitment to supporting local families.

“This upgrade will be warmly welcomed from the community as it delivers modern resources to our students now and into the future,” Mr Layzell said.

“The Liberals & Nationals Government are delivering a safer and strong regional NSW with their record investment in school infrastructure.”

Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said this project will deliver long benefits to the local community.

“We are delivering on our commitment to give local students the latest facilities and support the growing community,” Ms Mitchell said.

The DA is now on public exhibition and will be open for comment until 13 December 2021. The community can view the DA and make comment by visiting the Muswellbrook Shire Council website.

The community is also invited to visit a virtual information room to learn more about the upgrade and view information boards, download an information pack, ask questions or leave feedback for the project team.

The virtual information room will be available from Monday 6 December to Sunday 12 December 2021 and will be available 24 hours a day while it is open.

To access the virtual room, please visit the Muswellbrook South Public School upgrade webpage on the School Infrastructure website and follow the link: https://www.schoolinfrastructure.nsw.gov.au/projects/m/muswellbrook-south-public-school-upgrade.html

The NSW Government is investing $7.9 billion over the next four years, continuing its program to deliver 215 new and upgraded schools to support communities across NSW. This is the largest investment in public education infrastructure in the history of NSW.
