Muswellbrook Golf Club will be on show to some of the best golfers in NSW when it hosts a tournament of the NSW Regional Open Series.
Member for Upper Hunter Dave Layzell said the 36-hole Muswellbrook Open will be staged in late-September.
“Muswellbrook is a new addition to the NSW Regional Open Series marking the return of golf of this standard to the Upper Hunter for the first time in recent years,” Mr Layzell said.
“I thank Golf NSW for considering the Upper Hunter as a venue and then the decision to bring the Regional Open Series to the region along with the economic benefits it will deliver.”
The Muswellbrook Open during 26-28 September is the third event of the $300,000 six tournament NSW Regional Open Series being played across the state during the upcoming spring and summer.
Players are expected to visit the Upper Hunter for up to three nights providing a boost to the local accommodation and hospitality industries.
On course there will be plenty at stake, with a $50,000 purse on offer (professionals only), and the top three placegetters (professional or amateur not otherwise already qualified) will also secure a start in the 2023 NSW Open.
“This event will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase Muswellbrook Golf Club following the $2 million upgrade over recent years supported by the NSW Government, Muswellbrook Shire Council and Muswellbrook RSL Club,” Mr Layzell said.
